2013-7-5 Motor oil had somehow found its’ way up the distributor and into the distributor cap. After a few minutes of back forth questions and thoughts, we found the culprit. Too much crankcase pressure. A few clicks and a credit card number later, and we had our solution on the way.

Run a PCV valve, check that it is working properly, and make sure there is a vent. A band of oil or light grease, even rust is common about half way up the side of the cap.

Read More2007-3-9 I have a 1991 camry with 268,000 miles. Recently it has been accumulating oil in the distributor cap. I have changed the o-ring on the distributor but that didn't help. It does take several thousand miles before I notice any hesitation because of the oil so it is not a very big leak. Any help would be appreciated.:banghead:

Read Moreif you are misfiringafter replacing plugs, than i think that you have a problem with your distributor. those had some issues with leaking oil inside of the distributor assembly. you need to remove the distributor cap and rotor and then remove this black round cover thats where the oil gets trapped and it leaks on the signal plate inside of the distributor causing misfire. you may have oil leaking out when you remove the cap
